Dragon Fang

A shard of ancient power forged from the teeth of a beast.

The Dragon Fang is a legendary artifact and weapon type deeply rooted in the ancient history of the Old World, particularly among the Saurus caste of the Lizardmen. Crafted from the calcified teeth or bones of great Dragons, it represents a tangible link to the primordial power that once walked the earth before the Age of Chaos. In the Total War battlescape, it serves as both a potent lootable item for high-ranking units and a symbol of the enduring pact between the Lizardmen and the beasts they are sworn to protect.

Lore & Background

However, the allure of such power extends beyond the Lizardmen. The Skaven, in their twisted desperation, often scavenge these fangs to craft potent poisons or crude weapons that mimic the breath of the beast they fear and covet. Dwarfs, too, have been known to forge blades from dragon bone, seeking to channel the fire into steel. Yet, it is among the Saurus that the Dragon Fang finds its most sacred application, often embedded in shields or spearheads to ward off the corruption of Chaos with the raw magic of the Old Ones' creations.

In Their Own Story

The rain fell hard on the jagged peaks of the Spine of the World, washing blood into the ravines. A lone Saurus Scar-Veteran stood over the carcass of a great Wyrm, its scales still shimmering with residual sorcery. With a heavy breath that misted in the cold air, he drew his chitinous blade and struck at the beast's lower jaw. The sound was like stone on stone as the fang cracked free. He did not claim it for glory, but for duty; this tooth would now guard the temple of Tlaxtlan, a silent sentinel against the darkness waiting below.

Reader's Guide

In battle, the Dragon Fang functions primarily as an artifact or weapon upgrade rather than a castable spell. It does not require casting costs, range, or duration management like traditional magic. Instead, its effects are passive and persistent for the bearer. When equipped by a unit, it typically grants significant bonuses to physical resistance and melee attack strength. This makes it ideal for frontline Saurus units tasked with breaking enemy lines. The artifact's inherent magic can also provide minor warding against magical attacks, reflecting the dragon's natural resilience. Strategically, securing a Dragon Fang early in a campaign allows players to bolster their heavy infantry without relying on spellcasters. It is best utilized by high-tier Saurus units who can withstand the initial charge and leverage the increased damage output to shatter enemy morale.
