Dwarfs

Iron-forged warriors who hold the mountains against the darkness with unbreakable resolve.

The Dwarfs, or Khazâd, are a stoic and industrious race of short, bearded warriors who dwell deep within the roots of the world's great mountain ranges. Once masters of vast empires stretching across the Old World, they now cling to their remaining Holds with fierce determination, driven by an unyielding code of honor known as the Code of Clan. In the Total War adaptation, they are portrayed as a resilient faction that excels in defensive warfare, utilizing heavy armor, slow but devastating ballistics, and a relentless refusal to yield ground.

Lore & Background

Dwarfen society is rigidly structured around kinship and honor. Every action is weighed against the Code of Clan, which dictates that a debt must be paid and an insult avenged, no matter how many centuries pass. This cultural memory has made them excellent historians but also prone to feuds that outlast empires. Their craftsmanship is legendary; they forge weapons and armor that are said to never dull or break, imbued with the magic of their ancestors.

In Their Own Story

The air in the Great Hold was thick with the smell of hot metal and old dust. Thorgrim Ironbrew gripped his axe, the cold steel familiar against his palm. Outside, the rumble of the earth shook the stone walls as the Greenskin horde gathered at the gate. He looked to his kin, their faces grim beneath their braided beards. There was no fear in their eyes, only a cold, burning resolve. They would not yield this stone to the filth. The gates would hold, and if they fell, every Orc would pay with blood for the insult.

Reader's Guide

The Dwarfs excel as a defensive powerhouse, utilizing high armor values and powerful artillery to grind down enemies who overextend. Their core roster features heavily armored Warriors of the Iron Ancestor and Thunderers, whose rapid-fire handguns can shred cavalry charges from a distance. Strategically, players must leverage their superior static defense by building chokepoints in mountainous terrain or fortified cities. While they lack speed and magic compared to other factions, their resilience allows them to outlast attrition warfare. In multiplayer, holding the high ground is essential to maximize the damage of their crossbows and cannons. Special abilities like 'Stand Fast' allow units to resist fear and hold the line even when surrounded, making them ideal for anchoring a battle. However, players must manage their economy carefully, as Dwarfs require significant resources to maintain their expensive armies and repair fortifications.
